On April 5, 2007 he made his debut for "Dynamo-2" in a home match against Uzhhorod's "Zakarpattia". He played 50 matches for "Dynamo-2" in the First League, scoring 3 goals. Since 2007 he also played in the backup team of "Dynamo", for which he played in 30 games. He was declared for the Super Cup match on July 10, 2007 for the main team, but did not appear on the field.
He made his debut in the Premier League of the Ukrainian championship on May 9, 2010 in a match against Zaporizhzhya "Metalurh".
Before the start of the 2010/11 season, he transferred on loan to Kryvyi Rih's "Kryvbas", where he spent the next two and a half seasons.
In January 2013, he transferred to "Hoverla" on loan, but in the summer he transferred to Kyiv's "Arsenal" as a free agent, where he played until the team was removed from the championship at the end of the same year.
On February 25, 2014, he signed a six-month contract with the Polish club "Korona" (Kielce). Next in Petrov's career was a club from Kazakhstan - "Ordybasy", for which he played 27 matches in one season.
In February 2016, he became a player of Donetsk "Olympic", but in the winter of 2016/17 he left the team and joined the ranks of Baku "Neftchi".
He was called up to the youth national teams of Ukraine from the age of 15. The debut in the national team's T-shirt took place on August 21, 2005 in the match of the Ukrainian U17 national team against the Belarusian peers (0: 1 defeat).
As a member of the national team of Ukraine U19 - the champion of Europe of 2009. During the final part of the championship, which took place in Donetsk and Mariupol, he was the captain of the Ukrainian national team, took part in all five matches of the team. On July 24, 2009 in a largely decisive match of the group stage against the national team of England U19 scored 2 goals, thus bringing the national team of Ukraine the final draw (2: 2).
Since the fall of 2009 he has been involved in the youth national team of Ukraine.
Petrov joined "Kolos" in the winter of the 2019/20 season, where he joined the team at the Turkish training camp. He immediately became the main central defender at the club, having not played in only three matches of the team during his arrival.
