Ruslan Kostyshyn: “You can't train on penalties. This is psychology "

The head coach of "Kolos" Ruslan Kostyshyn commented on the outcome of the match against Kazakhstan's "Shakhter" (0: 0, penalties 1-3) in the Conference League:

"We were well prepared for the game, we looked good physically. In principle, we beat the opponent territorially, had the advantage, we can say, put pressure on the opponent, but at the same time created few scoring opportunities.

The opponent played a low block according to the 5-3-2 scheme. It is very difficult to find free zones against such a scheme. And if you find, you need to have the perfect skill to use them - the player must either beat the opponent one on one, or create a moment out of nothing, thanks to their qualities.

I'm happy with the way we played, but I'm not happy with the lack of scoring opportunities. Yesterday's number is not enough to reach the next stage. We worked out penalties normally, Nuriev was the best in training. You can't train such things. This is psychology. What does the player think as he walks from the center of the field to the 11-meter mark?

In the first game we were strengthened by substitutions, and in yesterday's game I didn't like the substitutes. Let them take offense at me. Our footballers should not be substitutes in important matches like that. I'm not saying they had to beat five players, but there must be some passion.

We got a fighting team. It seems to me that later in the tournament we would have more open teams. This is a flaw of almost all Ukrainian teams - to play as the number one in attacking football. This requires good performers who know how to work with the ball in a small space.

We are better given games when we play on defense or in the middle zone, but today we could not play like that because the opponent allowed us to attack. I understand that there will be criticism in the country, but we deserve it.", - said Kostyshyn at a post-match press conference.
